Terms and Privacy
Terms of Service
These terms cover your use of sshot, the website at sshot.co and the sshot Mac app. By creating an account you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use sshot.
Your account
- You need to be at least 16 years old to use sshot.
- Keep your password safe. You’re responsible for what happens in your account.
- One person per account. Your username must not impersonate someone else.
Your content
- Your screenshots stay yours. We don’t claim ownership of anything you upload.
- You give us permission to store, process and show your content only so sshot can work for you, for example to make thumbnails or to search the text inside.
- Only upload things you have the right to keep. Don’t use sshot for illegal content, malware, or to harass anyone.
- When you make a collection public, anyone with its link can view it. You can make it private again at any time.
The service
- sshot is provided as is. We work to keep it running and your data safe, but we can’t promise it will never be unavailable or lose data. Keep your own copies of anything important.
- We may change or stop features. If we ever shut sshot down, we’ll tell you in advance so you can download your screenshots.
- We may suspend accounts that break these terms.
- You can stop using sshot at any time and ask us to delete your account.
Changes
If we change these terms in a meaningful way, we’ll let you know before the changes take effect.
Privacy Policy
The short version: we keep what sshot needs to work, we don’t sell it, and we don’t show you ads.
What we collect
- Account details: your email, username, display name, bio and profile photo.
- Your screenshots: the images you save, their size, the date, which collection they belong to and where they sit on the canvas.
- Text inside screenshots: the Mac app reads the text in each capture on your Mac and sends it with the upload, so you can search it. Images aren’t sent anywhere else to be read.
- Technical data: a login cookie to keep you signed in, and basic server logs (like IP address and time of request) kept for security.
What the Mac app does
- It only captures the area you select after pressing your shortcut. It doesn’t record your screen in the background.
- macOS asks for Screen Recording permission because that’s what selecting an area requires.
- Captures that can’t upload right away wait on your Mac and upload when you’re back online.
Who can see your screenshots
- Collections are private by default. Only you can see them.
- A public collection can be viewed by anyone with its link.
- Your profile page shows your username, display name, bio, photo and your public collections.
Where your data lives
sshot runs on Supabase, which stores our database and files. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We don’t share your data with anyone else, except when the law requires it.
Your choices
- Edit your profile or delete screenshots and collections at any time. Deleting them removes them from your library.
- To get a copy of your data or delete your account and everything in it, email hello@sshot.co. We’ll do it within 30 days.
- No tracking or advertising cookies. We only use the cookie that keeps you logged in.
